Good News Advent: Day 1

Have you ever received news that didn’t make sense? News that made you stop, think, and say, “God… how is this even possible?”
That’s exactly where Mary found herself.
Before Gabriel even spoke the message, he spoke the truth Mary needed first:
“The Lord is with you.” (Luke 1:28)
God knew what she was about to hear would stir questions, confusion, maybe even fear. But before the assignment… before the calling… before the miracle…God anchored her with presence.
The Lord is with you.
Before you hear the news.
While you hear the news.
After the news settles in your heart.
Then came the message:
“You will conceive… you will give birth… you will call Him Jesus… His kingdom will never end.”
Mary didn’t pretend she understood. She didn’t fake confidence. She simply asked:
“How will this be?”
Not disbelief.
Not doubt.
Just an honest, human question.
And the angel answered her. He explained. He provided clarity.
Because faith isn’t the absence of questions—
Faith is bringing your questions to the God who is already with you.
And then Mary responds with one of the most powerful statements in all of Scripture:
“I am the Lord’s servant… may Your word to me be fulfilled.” (Luke 1:38)
She believed the truth that came before the message.
She trusted the presence of God more than the impossibility she felt.
Just like Mary, you and I receive news that surprises us, overwhelms us, or doesn’t make sense.
But before the phone call…
before the diagnosis…
before the job shift…
before the relationship change…
God is already with you.
And while you’re standing in the middle of uncertainty, He is with you.
And when the dust settles, He is still with you.
If you forget the first part of the message—God’s presence—you’ll start to panic in the middle of the message.
But if you hold on to it like Mary did… faith begins to rise.
